Laser Nurse Specialist

Having qualified as a Registered General Nurse in St. James's Hospital in 1992 Ruth worked in the Operating Theatre Department in St James's for fifteen years two of which were spent as acting Clinical Nurse Manager. She has worked in numerous specialities within the department including orthopaedic, vascular, general, maxillofacial and in particular plastic and reconstructive surgery, burns and laser surgery. Ruth completed a Certificate in Theatre Nursing in St. James's Hospital in 1996.

Ruth has a particular interest in Laser Surgery since attending one of the first Medical Laser Safety Courses run by the hospital in 1992. She became involved in the course giving practical demonstration of the laser machines and their clinical applications to subsequent course participants. She has worked with the Laser Clinical Nurse Specialist at St. James's for many years and has attended meetings of The National British Laser Study Group Conferences. Her most recent Medical Laser Safety Course was completed in December 2008.
